Mr. Johnnie Lee Phillips was born on February 11, 1935 in Florence, South Carolina. He was the son of Harry and Beatrice Wearing Phillips. On Friday, February 26, 2010 at Carolinas Hospital System, God called him from labor to reward after an extended illness.
Johnnie attended the public schools of Florence County. He was employed with Sears & Roebuck for 13 years and ESAB Welding for 28 years. After retiring, he delivered medicine and Meals on Wheels for the Senior Citizens Association until his health declined.
Johnnie was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served on the Usher Board, United Methodist Men, Gospel and Senior Choirs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Hattie Thomas and Isaac Phillips, Sr.
Left to cherish loving memories are: his wife of 49 years, Odessa Williams Phillips of the home; two sons, Hank B. (Ramona) Phillips of Tacoma, WA and Linward R. Phillips of Florence, SC; two daughters, Dorean (Anthony) Jones and Jennifer (Timothy) Green, all of Florence, SC; seven grandchildren, LaTresa Atkinson, LaMeka Atkinson, Justin Murray, Brittany Phillips, DaShawn Lee, Dana Lee and Tarren Green; three great grandchildren, VaShon, Quinten and James, Jr.; two brothers, Frank Phillips and Rev. H. K. (Deloris) Phillips, all of Florence, SC; four sisters, Mamie Phillips of Philadelphia, PA; Rebecca Phillips, Lillie (Hartwell) Grant and Leila Hines, all of Florence, SC; sister and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Phillips, Eugene Thomas, Joseph Ford and L. T. Yates; a special cousin, Ernest Spears; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
